When Te-shan gained insight into the truth of Zen, he took all of his commentaries on the diamond sutra, which he had considered indispensable, and set fire to them.
“However deep one’s knowledge of philosophy.” he exclaimed, “it is like a piece of hair flying into the vastness of space:however important one’s experience in worldly things, it is like a drop of water thrown into the abyss.”
